Cheeseburger in My Big Fat Greasy American Hands

Sep 7 '06 - Show at the Cynthia Broan Gallery

7 September through 7 October 2006

Anticipating a moment, prior to a moment, in the moment, after the moment.
Before, during, after, then, now, the future.
What do we carry with us?
How do we know what we know? How do we feel what we feel? What do we need to define ourselves? What do we use to protect ourselves?
How much can we have? How much can we feel? What can we share? Where are we in here? Does anyone need a witness in order to act, in order to exist? Can anyone understand experience through someone else’s story?
When is it complete, when does it end?
Is it OK to laugh yet?
Who really cares?

“…I want to know what became of the changes<<
We waited for love to bring
Were they only the fitful dreams
Of some greater awakening
I've been aware of the time going by
They say in the end it's the wink of an eye
And when the morning light comes streaming in
You'll get up and do it again
Amen

Caught between the longing for love
And the struggle for the legal tender
Where the sirens sing and the church bells ring
And the junk man pounds his fender
Where the veterans dream of the fight
Fast asleep at the traffic light
And the children solemnly wait
For the ice cream vendor
Out into the cool of the evening
Strolls the pretender
He knows that all his hopes and dreams
Begin and end there…”

-The Pretender, Jackson Browne
